Around the start of the year our island changes its colour, and its fields take on hues of white and pink<\/strong>. But contrary to what you might think, it isn\u2019t snow! It’s the almond blossom in Majorca<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But when is the almond blossom season in Majorca exactly?<\/strong> Every year, depending on the weather, almond blossom begins to appear around late January<\/strong>, and the spectacular floral display continues throughout February.<\/p>\n

Majorca in February, with the almond trees in bloom, undergoes a transformation that attracts thousands of nature lovers<\/strong>, and pulls attention away from the coast, directing it inland.<\/p>\n

If you look closely, you’ll notice trees with pink flowers and others with white flowers<\/strong>. This is because there are two varieties of almond tree. The ones with pink flowers produce bitter almonds, while the white flowered almond trees yield sweet fruit.<\/p>\n

Temperatures are relatively low during almond blossom season in Majorca, although the sun shines almost every day<\/strong>. The biggest enemy of the flowers is the possible night-time frost, which can cause the death of millions of flowers and the consequent loss of much of the year’s production.<\/p>\n

Thousands of almond trees may be seen scattered about the island<\/strong> throughout the season, but the most spectacular areas for enjoying this natural phenomenon are the northern, central and eastern parts<\/strong> of the island, in places like Santa Maria, Llucmajor, Sencelles, Sant Lloren\u00e7 and Son Servera.<\/p>\n

The Serra de Tramuntana, located to the north of the island, is home to some of the most popular cycling routes and a magnet for cyclists from all over the world. During this time of year, the almond blossom adds to the natural beauty of the area, creating a truly magical landscape.<\/p>\n
